After the Ruth Gorge, we
went down to Seward for a more relaxing time... planning to hike
part of the Resurrection Trail and go for a few day hikes, fishing,
and a cruise of the Kenai fjords. Unfortunately, the weather
wouldn't cooperate - and we didn't want to spend more time in a
soggy tent - so we axed the backpacking plans, instead doing a
few day hikes and staying in an awesome log cabin B&B next to
Seward.
On the drive down, we stopped by the wildlife conservation center,
and in Seward we went to the sealife adventure center, great
rainy day activities.
We hiked to
Lost Lake and also went on a full day cruise of the Kenai Fjords NP,
checking out Aialik Bay and Holgate Bay, where the glaciers from
the Harding Icefields come down into the ocean - fantastic.
We were lucky to see a few whales, bald eagles and lots of other
cool wildlife on the trip! On the last day, we also tried our
luck at fly fishing on the Russian River, but that didn't pan out
very well. :) We did
run to the falls and back in the afternoon, however, which
was great fun - watching the salmon trying to jump over the falls...
Next: Hatcher Pass and the truck camper!
