A Bridge Too Far, Kananaskis
300m IV WI 4+

People: Hedd-wyn, Eugene, Peter

We got a lazy start since the morning was really cold (-24 in Calgary). Amazingly, the forecasted afternoon temperatures for Kananaskis were +5 C, so we were in no hurry to get an early start. A couple of guys were ahead of us, but thankfully the climb consists of a number of steps separated by snow slopes, so it can accomodate two parties safely.

A lot of people only do the first pitch, the book calls the whole climb a "true one pitch wonder". After that, the climb is followed by numerous steps of easier ice for quite a long time. I convinced the guys to let me lead the first pitch, and it was a blast. Then we continued for 2-3 more pitches and rappelled back down. The other pitches were enjoyable too, it was just pleasant to be outside in the warmth of the sun! I was also testing out my new (to me) plastic boots, which turned out a lot better than I was expecting!

Thanks to Eugene for taking most of these pictures!
