Idaho: City of Rocks and Stanley area

Once the 4th of July week hit, it was road trip time! Initially, we
planned to go to Elephant's Perch, but Melissa re-sprained her ankle
a couple of weeks before the trip, so it wasn't happening. Bummer,
as last year we tried to go there as well, and just as we were all
packed and ready to go at the trailhead, a fire broke out and
evacuated us... hopefully the 3rd time we go, it'll be better luck?
Plan B was to check out City of Rocks, where we hadn't been... the
area has mostly mellower short climbs, and then after that go to
Stanley, but not to climb - this time the goal was fly fishing with
our new tenkara rods :) The City was great fun - similar to Joshua
Tree but at higher elevation. Great camping and the Rock City cafe
in town had amazing pizza and beer selection! Funny enough, we ran
into Dow and Jorge and Joanna there (unplanned)! So we hung out an
extra day/night, and went to the Yellow Wall with them. Lots of fun
with great company :)
So the next day we drove to Ketchum, had breakfast there
and went fishing at the Bigwood river for a short while. We didn't
catch anything there so we kept driving to Stanley. There, we fished
Stanley Creek and the Salmon River and caught several rainbows!
Another highlight of Stanley was a spectacular campspot that we
found, as well as the 4th of July parade downtown.
Before long, it was already time to go home... another week of
vacation goes by too fast!
