Onto Nairobi

After climbing on Mt Kenya, we looked forward to the warm tropics for a week - but it almost didn't happen. Kenya Airways only flies to the Seychelles 3 times a week at the time of writing: Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. We had booked our stay from Tuesday through Sunday, planning to return from our climbing trip on Sunday night and spend a day in Nairobi to clean up before flying out. It turned out that we came down from the mountains a day early (Saturday night), and went to check email - much to our surprise, the Tuesday flight was cancelled due to lack of passengers! They had automatically rebooked us for Thursday, which only left us 2 days there - not good enough. Suddenly it dawned on us that they fly there on Sunday too - and a quick phone call later we were booked on it! We were lucky to have gotten back a day early...

The Seychelles were amazing. For some reason there weren't many tourists (we were the only ones staying at our hotel!), which was nice. We rented a car one day and drove around the island, which was awesome and allowed us to go snorkelling on a small beach far away from the touristy area. We also went diving several of the days and I finished my Open Water Diver certification. Another day was spent on a huge sail boat with very interesting history (built in Holland in 1920, and the owner sank it during World War II as he didn't want it used in the war).

Seven days passed by very quickly and next thing you know, it was time to go back to Nairobi and fly home from there!
