We flew into Anchorage on the night of July 1st, and the sky was very gloomy... the forecast wasn't great either. We debated whether to go up to Talkeetna and fly into the Ruth Gorge right away, or wait for better weather. However, the weather there is really unpredictable... so we figured we'll be taking our chances either way, so might as well go there straight away. The sooner the better, as well, since otherwise the glacier melts further making the crevasse crossings even more dangerous...

It turned out Melissa has some awesome relatives that live in Anchorage, and her unkle Randy gave us a ride to Talkeetna - which was super awesome! We were originally told we might be able to fly out right away, but the weather moved in just as we were about to fly... then we had to wait for a couple of days in order to get another flyable weather window. Waiting around sure gets frustrating!

By coincidence, we were in Talkeetna for July 4th, which included a pretty awesome/unique parade! Talkeetna is a weird town... for one thing, the mayor is a cat :)

In the afternoon, the weather cleared - and we were able to fly into the Ruth Gorge, the first part of our Alaskan adventure!

Next: Ruth Gorge!

The Talkeetna Air Taxi building that we became very acquainted with, while we waited for flyable weather for 2 days Pretty classic Alaska - an old subaru that has clearly had a hard life Hanging out by the river, a few hundred feet from downtown

Mexican Moose food truck :) Chainsaw carvings and gold panning! And that's the Alaska flag, not EU :) Talkeetna downtown - that's about it :-) The roadhouse is the classic breakfast joint. We had a Bulgarian waiter, which was very random and cool!
